A friend of a friend invited me up to the R/C flying field the other evening. This fellow pictured to the right was also passing
thru Salmon, ID, and had parked his
motorhome at the R/C field.
We sat around
BS'ing, an earthquake was mentioned in the
conversation, I told them about when I was on a
flightcrew back in 1964, flying relief & supplies into Kodiak Is, Alaska. This fellow says, 'really, so did I' , he was a young LT assigned to the Naval Air Station at
Whidbey Is
Washington. Same as me. I said LT
Weatherly?? He replies '
thats me'.........
Turns out he was my plane commander(Pilot ) on several flights. While not flying I was assigned to maintenance shop. He was officer in charge of
maintenance.!!!!!!!!
We didn't hang out together of course, I was enlisted and he was an officer. We knew many of the same people stationed there.
We both served in
Vietnam in different squadrons.
I have met many people along the road over the last few years, this was one of those
memorabletimes.
yep thats me taxing my plane and the road going back down the hill to Salmon. This field was BLM land adminstered by the Dept of the Interior.

A groupof R/C flyers petitioned for use of the land some 20 yrs ago and was awarded the land.
It is a great place.
And of course a shot of Molly posing;-)
